The former world number one had a bad day, unexpectedly exiting Indian Wells after just two rounds against Karolina Mukhova, 7-6(1), 6-3.

Victoria Azarenka lost to Karolina Mukhova in Indian Wells

Mukhova (76 WTA) controlled the first set against the two-time Grand Slam champion, and in the tie-break she won an emphatic 7-1 victory.

In the second set, the Belarusian (14 WTA) dropped three serves, and Karolina Mukhova took full advantage and finished the match after two hours and six minutes.

The third round will bring the athlete from the Czech Republic a confrontation with the Italian winner Martina Trevisan (26 WTA) and the American Madison Brengle (87 WTA).

Indian Wells will be held from March 6-19 on hard and 96 players have started in the two main draws. The contest offers $8,800,000 each for men and women. Titled champions – Taylor Fritz and Iga Svyatek.
