“The only winner is democratic anxiety”

A message of unity for a united and strong Democratic Alert was sent by new DISY President Annita Dimitriou in her first statements after her election, with outgoing President Averof Neofitou and her opponent Dimitris Dimitriou at her side, to a packed room at the party’s headquarters in Pindara.

Ms. Dimitriou warmly embraced Mr. Dimitriou shortly before the official announcement of the results of the Extraordinary Pan-Cypriot Electoral Assembly, which declared her the winner with a percentage of 69.15%. 41% of registered DISY members who participated in the process elected the party’s first female president.

“Here is Democratic anxiety, united and strong,” was Ms. Dimitriou’s first sentence. “Together we will continue, united, strong, the main characters in political events.” She thanked from the bottom of her heart “the wonderful people at DISY who rallied from the first moment and made unity a reality today. We are all together, with this great legacy of Glaukos Cleridis, the vision of tomorrow, and this is how we will move forward.”

The turnout was huge and there was a clear signal that this is how they would operate, he added. “In these efforts, no one and nothing is left behind. We need our historical leaders, we need our leadership, we need organized teams, we need our youth, we need each and every one of you.”
