The US Air Force unveiled on Friday a new color scheme for Air Force One, the plane used by the US president, showing that Joe Biden has abandoned the one chosen by his predecessor Donald Trump, AFP reported, according to News.ro.

For the two planes currently being built by Boeing to replace the White House’s current aging fleet, the US president chose light blue and white, classic colors introduced by JFK more than six decades ago.

The new presidential jets are expected to be delivered in 2027 and 2028, and the winner of the 2024 presidential election will be the first to board them. Current operational aircraft will fly until then, despite rising maintenance costs and obsolete parts.

Air Force One’s colors have been changed from the plans presented by Donald Trump

Donald Trump, who left the presidential office in January 2021, wanted to change the colors of future planes, preferring red, white and navy blue. He had a model of the future airplane in these colors on his coffee table in the Oval Office. According to Donald Trump’s plans, the presidential plane will have a red stripe in the middle and a dark blue stripe at the bottom, reminiscent of the American flag.

The change in the colors of the new presidential plane also received official motivation from the US Air Force:

  • “The thermal study concluded (…) that the dark blue color in the design would require additional FAA qualification testing for several commercial components due to additional heating in certain environments.”

The new Air Force One will therefore resemble the current aircraft, although the blue color will be “a bit more modern” and the fuselage will not have polished metal “because the alloys in the structural material of today’s commercial aircraft do not allow this.” .

The term Air Force One is used to refer to two different presidential aircraft. On board, the president can use all the prerogatives of his office while in the air, including launching a nuclear attack. They are equipped with the latest navigation and defense systems, such as an anti-missile complex and an explosion-proof fuselage, and also have a medical area.
