The Swiss government said on Friday that it will not change its strategy of refusing to re-export weapons produced on its territory to other countries, despite pressure from many countries that demand the right to transfer weapons to Ukraine, writes Reuters.

Calls for Switzerland to abandon its centuries-old tradition as a neutral state have grown both at home and abroad since Russia invaded Ukraine more than a year ago. In January, two parliamentary committees recommended loosening these rules.

However, as a result of the meeting, the Cabinet of Ministers rejected the appeal.

“The Federal Council is committed to the values of Swiss neutrality and will continue to work to ensure that the benefits of neutrality are realized,” the statement said.

However, he said he would continue to monitor the debate and make a further statement “if necessary”.

Since the beginning of the war, Switzerland has received requests from Germany, Denmark and Spain to re-export Swiss military materials to Ukraine, but all these requests have been rejected. However, it adopted European Union sanctions and repeatedly called for the withdrawal of Russian troops from Ukraine.
