The European Union will soon have to decide on a new increase in funds for the purchase of weapons for Ukraine, a high-ranking EU official said on Friday, according to which the next additional funds could amount to 3.5 billion euros.

According to the plan developed by the head of EU diplomacy, Josep Borrell, the EU countries will receive financial incentives worth 1 billion euros to send an additional amount of artillery ammunition to Kyiv from their own stocks, and another billion euros will be directed to the purchase of new shells in general, the Reuters agency reminds , quoted by Agerpres.

“If this package of 2 billion euros is agreed upon, the resources within the EPF will be exhausted,” the quoted official said, referring to the European Peace Fund, which finances arms for Kyiv.

“It’s up to member states to decide if and when they want to implement this possible new €3.5 billion top-up,” the senior official added.
