The Hamburg police announced that the perpetrator of the attack on the building of Jehovah’s Witnesses on Thursday evening is likely among the dead.
“We found a deceased person at a community center in Gross Borstel who we believe could be the attacker,” the police said in a tweet, adding that an investigation is ongoing “to rule out the possibility of other attackers being involved.”
The first warning came to the police shortly after 9:15 pm (local time; 10:15 pm Greek time) regarding reports of shooting at the building where the Jehovah’s Witnesses’ event was being held. Police officers who were already in the area rushed to the scene and heard another shot as they approached the building. The police themselves did not shoot, it is specified.
According to the Bild newspaper, six dead were initially found, the police found the seventh on the second floor, away from the other victims. “It is not yet clear if this is the attacker, but there is no evidence that the attacker or attackers fled,” a police spokesman said.
