The student who rode the fatal train and got out alive spoke about the deadly accident at Tempe and what followed.

Alexandros Moutsianos is studying in Athens and on the evening of February 28 he went to Thessaloniki to visit relatives.

“In the beginning, we experienced it as an accident, we had constant collisions one after another, fortunately, we were in the seventh car, there were no serious injuries, there were some open heads and some pains in the side, legs, various things, like that… We were inside the tunnel and from the moment we got out (…) there was a commotion and we sat in the car for a while” until it started to fill with smoke, “There was no fire in our car – then we went out into the tunnel and sometimes only smoke was visible through the front, and we could not determine the location of the field,” he said at the beginning Alexandros Moutsianos at ERT.

“The tunnel was pitch-black, we turned on the flashlights on our mobile phones, from the car itself, how we went down is a bit unknown. The doors opened either automatically or someone else opened them. I don’t know how the doors opened (…) Stuck in the front cars, they yelled at us to leave because the train was about to explode.they probably predicted this because there were fires in their own cars, and some people started pushing us to the opposite side of the train to continue moving inside the tunnel to get away from the train, ”said the young student.

“We lost children from my neighborhood, I live in Panorama, and as far as this part is concerned, the consequences were much sadder than the moment itself. Because of the adrenaline, the excitement was not so great back then.

“Just One Phone Call”

As he complained, although eight days had passed since the accident, he received only one phone call from Hellenic Train, which he describes as “ironic to say the least.” This phone call simply informed you that in case of lost luggage, you should know that the luggage is at the Evangelismos police station and we will give you a contact number.”

Mr. Moutsianos complains that he called both the company and the ministries. “The only point of contact was this phone call,” he comments.
