The president of the Romanian Institute of Culture (ICR), Liviu Đicman, announced on Thursday that he has proposed the dismissal of ICR’s London-based director, Katinka Nistor. The decision follows widespread criticism of the ICR London chief who sang at a show organized by the institution she chairs. Several controversies are associated with Katinka Nistor’s name, including the rent paid by the Romanian state for her London home.
“We submitted a motion to recall the director of ICR London, Katinka Nistor,” said Liviu Žikman, News.ro reports.
Director of ICR London Katinka Nistor sang on March 1 in a show organized by the institution she heads, together with cellist Andrii Cavassi. Her speech caused a lot of criticism in social networks.
Several controversies are associated with the name Catică Nistor. In April 2022, she was nominated and supported by the PSD in Parliament for the appointment as Chair of ICR London. Her hearing in the specialized commissions of the parliament caused the indignation of opposition parliamentarians, who drew attention to the fact that she has no training for the position that was offered.
The USR charged that “PSD and PNL are doing what they do best, which is to distribute their functions and appoint completely untrained people to run institutions, strictly according to political criteria.”
“What does she recommend? She is the daughter of actor Stelyl Nistor, a former leader of the Scottish Rite Masonic Lodge. She was sent to court for allegedly misappropriating amounts of money while acting as interim director of the Boulandre theater, a position she held during the tenure of Gabriela Firea. Answering the question during the hearing, what are her main goals for this term, she calmly stated that she is not able to answer this question yet, but that she will be able to answer specifically in… 2023,” – UDR. representatives said then.
After being appointed as the director of ICR London, Katinka Nistor was publicly noted for the scandal caused by the Romanian state’s rent for the apartment in which she currently lives in Great Britain.
At the end of 2022, Libertatea.ro reported that the Romanian state was paying a monthly rent of £6,500 for the ICR London directorate. Katinka Nistor would refuse the provided apartment where the previous directors lived.
