Novak Djokovic, who has not been vaccinated against the coronavirus, asked for a special permit to enter the United States, but did not receive it and was forced to withdraw from the tournament in Indian Wells. Now the governor of the state of Florida appealed to the President of the United States, Joe Biden, with a request to intervene in the case of the world leader.

The governor of Florida asks Joe Biden to allow Novak Djokovic to enter the United States

As Reuters reports, Governor Ron DeSantis asked Biden to grant Nole permission to participate in the ATP Masters 1000 tournament in Miami (March 19-April 2).

Djokovic, 35, left Indian Wells on Sunday after US officials denied his request to enter the country.

“This refusal is unfair, unscientific and unacceptable. I encourage you to check it out. It’s time to put the pandemic politics on hold and give the American people what they want – let them play.” – Ron DeSantis in a letter addressed to President Joe Biden.

The US currently bans unvaccinated foreigners from entering the country, a policy expected to be lifted on May 11.

After being kicked out of Australia last year, Djokovic announced that he would rather miss a Grand Slam than get a dose of the Covid vaccine.

The Serbian is a five-time champion in both Indian Wells and Miami, but has not been able to participate in these competitions in recent years (2021, 2022 and 2023).

The “good” news for Joker is that he won’t lose points next term and can focus on preparing for the clay season.
