Anthony Daniels, the only actor to have starred in all 11 Star Wars films, knows how much sci-fi films have changed over the years, but so has space exploration, especially the legendary George Lucas film series, as he says.
The London-based English actor and mime who gave birth to the humanoid robot C-3PO from the film series starred in the first Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope in 1977.
Anthony Daniels, who was a guest at the Middle East Film & Comic Con this past weekend in Abu Dhabi, said that during his travels around the world he met many people working in the field of science and technology, space explorers who believe in “Star Wars”. the films inspired them to research in their chosen field.
Specifically, he said he noticed a connection between the Star Wars movies and how far space exploration has come: “Science fiction has gotten a lot smarter. Some of the scripts are very modern and, of course, the films have contributed to the development of science,” he said, according to The National.
“Many people I have met who have worked in space in the past did so because of Star Wars because George Lucas, the creator of Star Wars, made this world accessible,” Mr. Daniels explained.
His face may not be as recognizable as those of his Star Wars co-stars Harrison Ford and Mark Hamill, but true fans of the series know him from his role.
Referring to his first meeting with Star Wars creator George Lucas, Mr Daniels said he was not interested in science fiction as a film genre and was not a fan of it. However, his agent’s insistence on getting involved and seeing the work of the original trilogy’s legendary designer Ralph Macquarie convinced the actor.
According to him, he had no idea that a low-budget film from a then-unknown director would change the course of his life and career.
Anthony Daniels spoke at Middle East Film & Comic Con about his book “I’m C-3PO – The Inside Story” in which he talked about his experience with an epic cinematic experience that has influenced pop culture for over 40 years.
