At the same time, the Prosecutor of the Supreme Court, Isidoros Dogiakos, in a document from the Prosecutor’s Office of Thessaloniki, asked to send him the materials of the case initiated on the fact of the train crash in Adendro, Thessaloniki, in 2017.

The chief prosecutor will reportedly review the case file to see if a new investigation into the 2017 incident should be opened in light of new findings following the Tempe tragedy.

The train then derailed, with four dead and one driver among them, while another survivor was brought to trial as responsible for the accident but acquitted.

According to the information, the prosecutor of the Supreme Court has now requested the case file on the 2017 accident, as reports indicate that both then and today there were similar complaints about duties regarding the state of modernization of the railway network, which then – in 2017 – were not investigated, and it may be appropriate to do so now.

Three prosecutors took up the investigation of projects

At the same time, Financial Prosecutor Christos Bardakis, following yesterday’s order by the Prosecutor of the Supreme Court, Isidoros Dogiakos, to give absolute priority to the investigation of all overdue or outstanding contracts, as it should be for the modernization of the railway network, assigned investigations for the projects to three prosecutors. Attorney of Appeal Michalis Michalopoulos, who will also be the head of the prosecutor’s office, and prosecutors Dimitris Apostolas and Athanasiou Vlachos, who in the past investigated contract 717 of 2014, a contract to modernize the railway network, which was not implemented after forty waves, finally, a contract appeared that completed it (additional), while the entire project is still not fully completed.

The investigation into contract 717 by prosecutor Athanasia Vlacho resulted in complaints that led to the intervention of the prosecutor and related to public damages in the amount of 3 million euros as a result of project delays. However, from the investigations conducted by the Transparency Office, the conclusion of which was sent to the Financial Prosecutor’s Office, according to the information, it did not appear that the public suffered damage, and therefore the case was opened in 2021.

However, it was subsequently withdrawn in 2022 when new evidence emerged and was brought to the attention of the Financial Prosecutor by the European Prosecutor’s Office, which to this day is investigating the public funds part of the case. .

However, in addition to the investigation by the European Prosecutor’s Office, according to the information of the Economic Prosecutor’s Office, it is being investigated for crimes of disloyalty towards society (i.e., is already studying:

• Contract 2005 for the modernization of the railway network in the section of Athens, Acharnes, Liosia, Corinth.
• Contract 2013 for the section Acharnes – Tiforea.
• The contract for 2013 is also for the Tiforea-Domokos section.
• Contract 2015 on the Piraeus-Athens section.

Investigations by the Economic Prosecutor’s Office reportedly concern only establishing whether a crime of disloyalty to society has taken place, and not other crimes.
