Two men, a 63-year-old and a 54-year-old, were arrested by police officers from the Department of Environmental Protection of the Thessaloniki Security Directorate for burning seats and plastic parts obtained from car parts.
In particular, a 63-year-old man was found alone in the yard of an auto parts store near Gefira, Thessaloniki, burning plastic and car seats in a makeshift incineration site, at the behest of the 54-year-old business owner, resulting in a suffocating atmosphere and a strong stench.
There was also other waste from the illegal dismantling of automotive parts in the area, as the company does not have an appropriate license to operate and a decision that approves environmental conditions or standard environmental obligations of the competent authorities.
Criminal proceedings have been instituted against those arrested, including for deliberate arson and violation of laws on environmental protection. Those arrested will be taken to the competent prosecutor’s office.
