The tragedy occurred on Saturday (4/3) in Thessaloniki with the death of a baby.
According to the report, it all happened around 13:20, when the 47-day-old baby was taken by an EKAV ambulance to the Gennimatas hospital and, despite the efforts of doctors, eventually died.
Clinical examination of the child revealed edema with ecchymosis on the upper eyelid of the left eye, ecchymosis on the left cheekbone and swelling of the skull.
The father of the child, a citizen of Bulgaria, initially stated during police interrogation that on Saturday morning and while being with the child, he began to feel discomfort and shortness of breath.
Yesterday, on Monday (03.06), an autopsy was performed on the child, which revealed the above-mentioned craniocerebral injuries.
After the discovery, the father was re-examined and admitted that while he was holding the child in his arms in the bedroom, the baby slipped out of his arms and fell on the edge of the bed, hitting his head on the iron railing and then on the bedroom floor. After picking up the child from the floor, he discovered that he was short of breath, and reported this by phone to emergency services, while he himself tried to provide first aid, hiding the fall of the child from the authorities and from his wife.
The police are now conducting a preliminary investigation into the manslaughter.
