Chinese foreign minister warns: ‘If the US does not stop, we will come to conflict’

Washington and Beijing “will find themselves in conflict” if the US does not change its approach and continue to escalate tensions in bilateral relations, the Foreign Minister warned today. ChinaChin Gan.

In the same way as speech by Chinese President Xi JinpingQin said during a speech at the annual meeting of the Chinese Parliament that the US government is pursuing a policy of suppression and containment of China instead of taking a fair approach.

“The way China is perceived and viewed in the US is distorted,” said the Chinese foreign minister.

“Washington sees China as its main competitor and its biggest geopolitical challenge,” the Chinese foreign minister continued, adding that the US itself must abide by the rules he speaks of.

In support of his words, he even used a comparison: “Imagine two athletes participating in a road race at the Olympic Games. If one, instead of focusing on doing his best, tries to trip the other, it’s not a fair fight, it’s a malicious match, foul.”

The US also says it wants “guarantees” with China and that it does not seek conflict, he added, but in practice this means that Beijing is asked not to respond in words or actions when it is slandered or attacked.

“It’s just not possible,” Mr. Chin stressed. “If the US doesn’t slow down, if it continues to accelerate down the wrong path, no barriers will prevent a derailment that will escalate into conflict and confrontation, and who will suffer the devastating consequences?”

“If the US wants to be great again,” the Chinese foreign minister added, rather deliberately using the slogan of former President Donald Trump, “they must be more open about the development of other countries.”

“Containment and containment will not make America great. They will not stop the resurgence of China,” he added.

“China should strengthen relations with Russia”

Elsewhere in his speech, Qin Gang mentioned that China needs to strengthen its relationship with Russia, citing the good personal relationship between Xi Jinping and Vladimir Putin.

He did not specify whether Mr. Xi plans to visit Moscow after the end of the Chinese parliament, which will last another week.

Asked by reporters whether China and Russia would consider phasing out the use of the dollar and the euro in bilateral trade, Mr. Qin said the two countries would use whatever currency they deem effective, safe and secure.

“Currency should not be a decisive factor in the imposition of sanctions, much less a means of intimidation or coercion,” he commented.

Comments on the war in Ukraine

As for the war in Ukraine, China’s new foreign minister opined that it appears to be being run by an “invisible hand to advance specific geopolitical agendas”, thus pushing the armed conflict to prolong and escalate.

However, Qin reaffirmed Beijing’s position that peace talks between Moscow and Kiev should begin as soon as possible.

The repetition of Beijing’s position on the war in Ukraine comes against the background of growing tensions between China and the European Union, which calls into question the sincerity of Beijing in expressing its readiness to take on a mediating role, since it does not label Russia as an aggressor, an attacker.

Mr. Chin reiterated that the Chinese government did not supply military equipment to either of the warring parties.

China “does not participate in this crisis and did not supply equipment to any of the parties to the armed conflict. So what are the grounds for accusations, sanctions and threats against China? This is absolutely unacceptable,” the Chinese Foreign Minister said.

Finally, the Chinese foreign minister said that a crisis like the Ukrainian one should not be repeated in Asia.

According to him, the United States, with its strategy towards the region, which they call the Indo-Pacific, is trying to create “closed cliques” that harm the interests of the states of the region.
