European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen contacted Kyriakos Mitsotakis today regarding further technical support the EU could provide to Greece to modernize its railways and improve their safety.
“This morning I discussed with Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis further technical support that the EU can provide to Greece to modernize its railways and improve their safety. The @ERA_railways committee and experts will travel to Athens this week. Railway safety is paramount,” von der Leyen tweeted.

Recall that yesterday the Prime Minister mentioned in his Facebook post that he “will immediately ask the European Commission and friendly countries for help in terms of know-how so that we can finally get modern trains”, and also that he will propose “from now on to allow everyone parties to undertake to set up in the next parliament a special committee to investigate the painful history of the Greek railways over the past twenty years.”
