Announcement
As the Union says in a statement, “Shocked and deeply saddened by the horrendous accident at Tempi, minor in comparison to the scale of the disaster, we have no words to express ourselves in connection with a tragedy of unimaginable proportions. The pain of relatives and friends of the victims of the tragic railway accident during these hours cannot be alleviated by words of consolation. Their grief has the support and solidarity of everything that goes beyond the borders of the country.”
SIEK, continuing the announcement, expressing its undivided support for the relatives of the victims, as well as the trade unions active in HELLENIC TRAIN, is going on a 24-hour strike tomorrow March 5 (lines 1, 2 and 3) .
“Despite the written and oral warnings of the trade unions about the problems and gaps in security, the lack of protective measures, the serious shortage of personnel and equipment, the authorities are demonstratively deaf! Apparently, they are adherents of the principle “if failure does not occur, then we do not take steps to prevent it.” And it was here that failure arose, taking on even unimaginable and unbearable dimensions, conveying to our lips the unanswered “why?”.
“Why should huge omissions, criminal indifference to security issues, unjustified delays cost the lives of so many innocent people and deprive them of a smile from their lips once and for all? The political responsibility for this is enormous, and we will not tolerate its shifting to scapegoats. Our demand: to achieve responsibility and triumph of justice!”.
“It is necessary to take immediate measures to restore and ensure what is called “railway safety” so that we will never again experience a tragedy of this magnitude! We grieve for our dead fellow citizens and colleagues, express our sincere condolences to their families and, at the very least, take part in a rally to be held at Syntagma on Sunday, March 5, at 11:00 am. For this reason, trains will run from 09:00 to 16:00 to facilitate the presence of demonstrators at the meeting organized by the railway workers’ unions,” the union of electrical conductors and other road workers STASY SA said in a statement.
