
Two more doctors and the former head of the hospital are facing criminal charges in the case of removing cardiac pacemakers from deceased patients, the Prosecutor General’s Office reported on Friday.
The investigation practically continued, the prosecutor’s office announced the prosecution of three more people: a cardiologist for committing the crime of abuse of official position in an ongoing form, the head of a cardiology dispensary from 2017 to July 2022, and the former head of a hospital from the city of Iasi.

According to prosecutors, the cardiologist would provide pacemakers and defibrillators, the source of which was unknown to the doctor who installed the network. “The latter have implanted said medical devices in some patients, ignoring the risk of causing them serious medical problems or even death, thus proceeding to reuse them, although this is prohibited by primary legislation, and as a result, violating the constitutional right of patients to health.”
Regarding the former head of the cardiac dispensary, accused of complicity in the abuse of official position, the prosecutor’s office says in the extended form that he “in violation of the legislation in the industry approved a document with a list of products to be sterilized.” (first of all, we are talking about pacemakers and defibrillators), on the basis of which the sterilization of disposable medical products was continued in the ophthalmology clinical department of the hospital in Iasi.”
He also signed and approved in 2018, ignoring and violating the Ministry of Health order No. 961/2016 in force at the time, two documents entitled “Protocol for the recovery of implanted devices from deceased patients” and “Protocol for the use of re-sterilized implanted devices ( DIR) – in order to eliminate any additional risks” that were not registered and agreed by the legal advisor of the medical part.
A former hospital manager from Iasi who is being investigated for continued negligence in service (2 material documents) is accused of signing two addresses intended for the Iasi Health Insurance House, according to the Iasi Health Authority, through which he accepts reuse implant medical devices without making sure that the activity was carried out under optimal conditions within the framework of a public legal entity and that the legitimate interests of patients were protected, bypassing the illegal actions of the defendant doctor who launched the network.

Also on Friday, the prosecutor’s office announced that the prosecutors had seized the money and things seized during the searches:
- the sums of 112,250 lei, 73,580 euros and 750 US dollars – from the suspect, who is a cardiologist;
- the sums of 22,000 lei, 24,210 euros, 1,607 US dollars, 3,500 forints, 520 Swedish crowns, 300 Swiss francs, 300 pounds and 200 Danish crowns – from the suspect, who is the former head of the cardiology clinic of a hospital in the city of Iasi. ;
- the amount of EUR 5,100 recovered from the suspect, who is a former head of the hospital;
- the sums of 8,400 lei and 455 euros were collected from one of the doctors against whom criminal proceedings had previously been opened.
- an apartment located in the municipality of Iași, a building (land and structure) built without a building permit in the commune of Movileni, county of Iași, two other buildings and seven plots of land, the sums of 20,270 lei and 950 euros, as well as 36 paintings currently in storage in the Art Museum in Iasi, paintings with signatures of such artists as Josip Iser, Gheorghe Petrashku, Corneliu Baba, Nicolae Tonica, Stefan Lukian and Theodore Aman – from Doctor Tesloianu.
