A 20-year-old college student is the only survivor of the first train car that collided with a commercial train at Tempe.
According to the director of the intensive care unit of the General Hospital Larisa Apostolos Komno, the student was hospitalized with head injuries and underwent two surgeries.
“His condition is still critical,” he said, adding that “we are trying our best.”
Condition of other wounded
“We also have wounded who have undergone surgery. 20 people were admitted to our hospital, 15 remained in good condition, 5 were discharged. Some have been operated on, and some will be operated on, their condition does not cause concern,” Mr. Komnos said.
He then described the incredible scenes that unfolded in the hospital during the first hours of the Tempe railway tragedy. “When we were notified immediately after the accident, although the hospital was not on duty, as the Larisa University Hospital was on duty, in half an hour we were ready to receive the patient.” According to him, 40 ambulances arrived at the scene.
7 people have been identified
“I experienced something similar 20 years ago when my kids and I were in a traffic accident in Tempe. Same procedures, disaster,” recalls Mr. Komnos.
Finally, the director of intensive care in Larisa said that relatives were psychologically supported from the first hours, while 7 people have already been identified.
