CS Rapid Bucharest announced on Friday that they have parted ways with Carlos Weaver, the coach who brought them Romania’s first league title last season after a 19-year wait.
Carlos Weaver is no longer the coach of the Rapid
Weaver joined the Rapid in 2020 and was also the coach of the Spanish national team.
This season, Rapid is in 2nd place in the National League, nine points behind leaders CSM Bucharest. In the playoffs for the quarter-finals of the Champions League, the group with Giulio will play against the Slovenian team “Krim Ljubljana”.
“Sport is also beautiful because it often creates stories. Today, one of the sports stories comes to an end. The history of rapid handball.
A beautiful story that began in November 2020. Then Carlos Weaver, recently vice-champion of the world with the Spanish national team, arrived at Rapid with bold thoughts, although the current goal was only to stay in the League of Flowers.
In the first season, the team not only did not get relegated, but also finished the domestic competition in 6th place, very close to an unexpected qualification for the European Cup. We all hoped that in the next season, after almost two decades, fast handball would lead to European competitions.
The official goal (1-4 places) seemed bold but achievable. Under the leadership of Carlos, our girls stunned the Romanian handball and made a miracle; Rapid is the champion of the country, having gone through an exhausting struggle to the last stage.
What’s next… something like a story.
Champions League groups with matches against some of the strongest teams in world handball. Rapid impressed handball Europe not only with the most beautiful atmosphere at the competition, but also with sensational results.
In two and a half years, Carlos Weaver managed to use the energy of all Sakura, rewarding the trust of the club with outstanding sports performances. For all these performances, but especially for the story we wrote together, today we say “Gracias, Señor Carlos!” We thank you!’
CS Rapid Club and Carlos Weaver decided by mutual consent to end cooperation; however, we remain grateful to each other for the journey we took together!” – Fast CS on Facebook.
