Pulp: Band bassist Steve McKay dies

Pulp bassist Steve McKay has died at the age of 56 after months of hospitalization, his wife has said.

“After three months in the hospital, fighting with all our strength and determination, we are shocked and devastated to say goodbye to my brilliant husband,” his wife Kathy Grant wrote in an Instagram post.

“Steve was the most talented person I have ever met, an outstanding musician, producer, photographer and director,” he wrote.

It is noted that McKay gained recognition with Pulp through their seven albums, as well as producing, recording and mixing with a variety of musicians, including creating music for art exhibitions.

Pulp were at the forefront of the Britpop movement of the 1990s with hits such as “Common People” and “Disco 2000”.

He returned to the group after a nine-year hiatus for a world tour in 2011 and 2012, during which the final album was released in 2013.

However, in the band’s recent announcement of a new round of shows in 2023, McKee stated last October that he would not be participating.
