The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Hungary, Peter Szijjarto, said on Wednesday at a meeting of the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva that Ukraine’s proposal, which amounts to taking measures to eliminate ethnic minorities and using European funds for this, is “unacceptable”.

According to the official Hungarian news agency MTI, Péter Szijjarto was referring to a recent Ukrainian proposal under which ethnic minority families would receive approximately 1,000 euros if their children attended schools with the Ukrainian language of instruction instead of schools taught in their native language. schools native language, reports Agerpres.

The Ukrainian government is preparing to take billions of euros received from the EU as aid intended for the functioning of the country and use this money against minorities, the Hungarian minister believes.

The government in Budapest is closely monitoring the issue of ethnic minorities in Ukraine, given that millions of Hungarian citizens live outside Hungary, Szijarto also noted, quoted by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Budapest.

The Hungarian minister also insisted that since 2014, Ukraine has “continuously and systematically” violated the rights of ethnic minorities by passing laws that make it impossible to teach the languages ​​of national minorities. According to Sijarto, final exams will also not be available in minority languages, as well as entrance exams and vocational education. In addition, he claimed, school principals and teachers of schools teaching languages ​​of national minorities are being dismissed.

Therefore, the head of Hungarian diplomacy demanded the restoration of previously acquired rights of national minorities in Ukraine.

Sijarto: Without arms deliveries and sanctions, the war must be stopped

As a neighboring country, he continued, Hungary feels the tragic consequences of the conflict in Ukraine every day and has launched the largest humanitarian campaign to help Ukraine in history.

The international community must focus on saving lives. “The answer (…) should not be the supply of weapons, and (…) not to introduce new sanctions, which, by the way, are more painful and harmful for the European economies than for Russia,” the Minister also asserted a foreign Hungarian.

The only way to save lives is peace, “that’s why Hungary, as a neighboring country, calls for an immediate ceasefire and the start of peace talks,” he insisted.

The risk of a third world war and a nuclear conflict is now “higher than ever”, so “I would like to call on the international community to join forces to stop the war”, concluded Peter Szijjártó.

Siyarto: Many ethnic Hungarians in the Ukrainian army died at the front

In an interview with CNN on Saturday, he said that many ethnic Hungarians from Ukraine who had been drafted into the Ukrainian army had died on the front lines, so he again insisted that Hungary was in favor of peace talks that would end the conflict. .this war was started by Russia a year ago.
