The era of Christodoulides began in Cyprus

The newly elected President of the Republic of Cyprus, Nikos Christodoulidis, assumed his duties yesterday after the established procedures in the House of Representatives and the Presidential Palace, and the inauguration ceremony of the new government is scheduled for today.

“The expectations of the world are very high and it is very important for me to live up to those expectations,” Mr. Christodoulidis told reporters yesterday, among other things, after the handover ceremony at the Presidential Palace with former President Nikos Anastasiades.

“The expectations of the world are very high and this is a very big stake for me,” he said after the handover ceremony at the Presidential Palace.

Earlier, speaking at the plenary session of the Parliament of the Republic of Cyprus, the newly elected President stated: “The goal is to jointly achieve an increase in the level of institutional cooperation through concrete actions for the benefit of the citizen. As President of the Republic, I will address the House of Representatives annually to present the government’s legislative program for the following year, as well as a report on the government’s legislative work for the previous year. At the same time, I will hold regular meetings with the Speaker of Parliament and leaders of parliamentary parties to exchange views and inform each other about the country’s political priorities, the implementation process and the role of legislative work.”

For his part, Mr. Anastasiades said in his press statements that “after 49 years in politics, the time has come for young people elected by the people to come to power. It is well known that the time limit was my obligation to have an update and I am happy because today a new page is being written in Cypriot political history” to add that the political office will operate in Limassol and possibly later also in Nicosia.
