ISAP: today’s strike is suspended

Work stoppage has been suspended ISAP (Metro Line 1) which was scheduled for today to commemorate the Tempe train tragedy.

The routes will start at 10:30 am until the workers go to their posts.

“There are no words to describe such a tragedy. Today we mourn our fellow citizens who lost their lives in the train accident at Tempi because some people ignored the calls of the workers,” the STASY union said in a statement.

STASY staff announcement

“When workers talk about the lack of personnel, the obsolescence of facilities and infrastructure, the insufficient maintenance of rolling stock, delays throughout the network, some officials indifferently blew the phone. Tragedies of this magnitude are mathematically certain to happen if someone does not seriously take care of personnel and infrastructure. The railroad is not shining granite, spotlights and canal cameras running to show everyone who is responsible for this tragic event.

“The railroad is everything behind this Hollywood-level brilliance, everything that is invisible to camera lenses. Today, from the shame of one, we should see the resignation of all these “luminaries” who believe that the railway can work on autopilot.

“Today, the political leadership of the Ministry of Transport was supposed to resign en masse. With deep sorrow in our hearts in connection with today’s tragic accident, perhaps the largest in the history of the Greek railway, as a sign of mourning over the national tragedy, we are suspending our mobilization today. The hearts of all today are beating there, in Tempe. We do not forget about our problems and will return to them. Condolences to the families of the victims.”
