According to the Assistant Secretary of Defense for International Security Affairs, quoted by CNN, the US has found no evidence that the weapons it supplied to Ukraine were found outside of Ukraine.
“Instead, we’re seeing Ukrainian front-line units actually using battlefield security assistance on a daily basis,” Celeste Wallander told the House Defense Appropriations Subcommittee.
The US has adapted its accountability practices for combat settings to avoid the risk of illegal diversion, she added.
Another senior Pentagon official, Lt. Gen. Douglas Sims, said there were no reports of weapons missing from Ukraine and that it was not in the Ukrainians’ interest to get rid of them.
The war in Ukraine must end with the strategic failure of Russia
“I will say that our position is that this has to end up being a strategic failure for Russia, so that no aggressor, looking at this around the world, thinks, ‘Oh, that’s a good idea, I’ll get what I want.’ and I will not pay any price,” Celeste Wallander told the House Defense Appropriations Subcommittee.
She added that any negotiations should be “a process under the leadership of Ukraine, because they won in this.”
