A letter of thanks from the children of Mario Vitti to the President of the Hellenic Parliament-1

Letter reads as follows:

“Dear Mr. President,

We express our sincere gratitude for the condolences that you wanted to express by sending a wreath to the funeral of our father, Mario Vitti.

Mario Vitti had a unique and amazing life, long and creative until his passing from this world. Just a few days ago, he sent the text to the Sismanoglio Palace in Istanbul for reading on the occasion of an event to be held in his honor in April.

We are proud that our father made such a significant contribution to Greek culture, discovering the wealth of modern Greek literature. In his archive we found several pages, written at a young age, in which he tried to present Greece to the Italian public from a different point of view as far as Greek culture is concerned. In his descriptions, which are the result of his travels in the 1950s, you can already see the ability to analyze Greece from his personal point of view, the one that allowed him to always be a pioneer and innovator in his modern Greek studies.

Mario Vitti, a resident of Rome and also of Hydra, an Italian but also a Greek, left us, together with our mother Alexandra, with whom he lived for 70 years, a distinct identity, part Italian, part Greek.

We convey our warmest wishes to Massimo and Paolo Vitti.”
