
OUR Weekend became the first artist in his history Spotify which has reached 100 million listeners per month as confirmed by the streaming platform.
The news was first shared on Spotify’s social media, where it reads: “Official: On February 27, The Weeknd became the first artist in Spotify history to reach 100 million monthly listeners.”
At the time of publication of the news on international music sites, Miley Cyrus was in second place with over 82 million monthly listeners on the app. In third place is Taylor Swift with 80 million and Rihanna with 79 million.
This achievement followed the release of his “Die For You” remix featuring Ariana Grande, which peaked at number seven on the Billboard Hot 100.
Over the past 10 years, The Weeknd has released five albums, the first being 2013’s Kiss Land and the latest 2022’s Dawn FM. In addition, he released “The Dawn FM Experience” on Amazon Prime Video as an accompaniment to the album.
HBO Max recently aired The Weeknd: Live at SoFi Stadium tribute concert filmed during the After Hours ‘Til Dawn tour. His first drama series, Idol, is expected to air there.
Co-produced with Euphoria creator Sam Levinson, Idol is about “a self-help guru and modern-day cult leader who develops a complicated relationship with an up-and-coming pop idol.”
