The Michelin guide has downgraded from three to two stars the Parisian cuisine of Guy Savoy, one of the world’s most famous chefs, and La Rochelle (in the west) by Christopher Coutanceau, the AFP guide announced on Monday.
The guide list for 2023 will be published on March 6.
No chef with three stars, the highest honor in the world of gastronomy, was demoted in the 2021 and 2022 editions, unlike in 2019 and 2020.
In November, Guy Savoy, named the world’s best chef for the sixth time in a row, received three stars since 2002. Christopher Cutano received his third star in 2020.
Aware of the emotional and economic implications of such an announcement, twenty years after the suicide of chef Bernard Loiseau, Gwendal Pullenek, the head of Michelin, met with Christopher Coutanceau on Monday and spoke to Guy Savoie on the phone.
“These are exceptional restaurants, so you can imagine that these are carefully considered decisions, backed up by numerous visits by our inspectors throughout the year,” he told AFP.
Three other restaurants were downgraded from two stars to one: Table de l’Alpaga in Megeve in the southeast, Jean-Luc Tartarin in Le Havre in the north and Restaurant Michel Sarran in Toulouse in the southwest.
