Having entered the main draw after qualifying, Gabriela Ruse will have a tough task in the first round of the WTA 250 tournament in Monterrey, Mexico.

Gabriela Ruse takes on WTA Merida champion Camila Giorgi

Ruse (160 WTA) will play in the first round against Camila Giorgi (46 WTA). The athlete from Italy has just won the fourth title of her career in Merida after those held in Hertogenbosch 2015, Linz 2018 and Montreal 2021 (she played 6 more finals).

Gabriela and Camila have only met once on the WTA, at Chicago 2 (2021), and the Romanian won 6-4, 6-2.

In the final act of the Merida tournament, Giorgi defeated Sweden’s Rebecca Peterson 7-6(3), 1-6, 6-2 on Sunday.

Camila also beat Mayar Sherif (6th seed), Nuria Parrizas-Diaz, Sloane Stevens (6-0, 6-0) and Kateryna Sinyakov (4th seed) during the competition.

Abierto GNP Seguros takes place from February 27 to March 5 on hard, is part of the WTA 250 category, has a total prize pool of $259,303, and is the main favorite with Caroline Garcia.
