Several weeks have passed since the accident involving the comedian Pierre Palmade on the departmental road in Seine-et-Marne, in the city of Villers-en-Bierre. The crash, caused by the 54-year-old entertainer’s cocaine use, killed a child and left several people in comas. The backlash didn’t take long after the fact, with Home Secretary Gerald Darmamin announcing he wanted to crack down on drink and drug driving. Thus, the latter simply wants to take away the license from these dangerous drivers.
TRAFFIC SAFETY:
I want to remove the deduction of points for exceeding the speed of less than 5 km/h and thus treat those who work with understanding.
Conversely, I want to disenfranchise drunk drivers because they are potentially dangerous.— Gerald Darmanin (@GDarmanin) February 19, 2023
A heavier sentence
Pending the implementation of these decisions, the department decided to act. And not just any, but the Seine and Marne, where the accident happened. Then the prefect decided to make new decisions to fight two scourges on the road: alcohol and excessive speed. There are two main causes of crashes on the secondary network. Thus, the order provides for new, more severe sanctions than the rest of the country has for them risky behavior. Indeed, the department’s road fatality record has not been very good over the past few months.

From Friday, February 24, any driver is tested with a blood alcohol level above 0.40 mg/l d’air revokes the driver’s license for six months. The same applies to exceeding the speed limit by 40 km/h. As a reminder, in the rest of the country, the sanction is the loss of four points and a fine of 135 euros. Expulsion is possible, but then it will be an additional penalty, especially in the case of a relapse.
