Turkey: More than 44,370 people died in February 6 earthquake

At least 44,374 people died in Turkey to two powerful earthquakes This was announced on February 6 by the head of the Turkish Disaster Management Agency (AFAD) in the latest count of victims of the disaster.

Strong earthquakes occurred in 10 provinces in southern Turkey, affecting more than 13 million people.

Yunus Sezer, head of AFAD, said search and rescue operations have been completed in about 21,000 buildings, adding: “We are now fully focused on removing debris.”

According to him, at least 9900 aftershocks were registered after two large earthquakes.

“On average, every day we send more than 10,000 tents to the regions and deliver them to the most remote corners. Today we have 287 tent camps in the region,” Sezer emphasized.

He added that more than 1.5 million people are living in tents, containers and public hostels in the disaster areas, adding that 563,000 people have been evacuated outside the disaster area.
