Cristina Nyagu was booed by Rapid fans during CSM Bucharest’s 31-24 Romanian Cup round of 16 win, and CSM responded with a statement on social media on Monday.
CSM Bucharest asks FRH to take action after Rapid fans boo Cristina Nhaga
According to CSM Bucharest, Giuleşti fans approached Cristina Nyagu and coach Adrian Vasile with trifles five times. The Bucharest group believes the situation could have been avoided and is asking the FRH to severely punish the supporters’ lapses.
“CSM Bucharest did not aim to create controversy in the public space or generate conflict situations, and the history of its 15 years of existence is a testimony of honest behavior and impeccable behavior, both domestically and internationally. CSM Bucharest represents a well-known name in European handball, respected for the development and consistently valuable performances of the women’s handball team in the Champions League, things that have made the whole of Romania proud!
However, we cannot passively observe a series of untruths that some express in the public space representatives of the “Rapid” club.but also on an official publication of FRH, as well as the public statement of the President Konstantin Din. CSM Bucharest did not bully anyone, did not incite anyone, and all these remarks affect our fans, who support the team and create a sensational atmosphere in Polivalenta, match by match.
Moreover, according to FRH rules, the away club has an obligation to request in writing the number of tickets it wants for its own fans, which Rapid have never done (neither for a league match nor for a cup match). – but precisely because we didn’t want to bother anyone, we provided even more tickets than FRH rules allow. If the insults expressed by the rapidist gallery were at the premiere, then perhaps such an approach of the president of the Federal Republic of Germany could have a basis, but when an attempt is made to make some profit from some “recidivists”, we believe that this is too much.
In the 2022/23 season alone, there were 4 episodes in which Giulești fans showed unsportsmanlike behavior, and it should not be forgotten that during the match for the Romanian Super Cup (organized by FRH), apart from the mischief, this “well-known and extremely highly rated gallery at the European level “, threw objects and liquids on the field, the FRH Disciplinary Commission fined her behavior.
Literally a week later, in the inaugural match of the Flower League, in the Rapid Hall (organizer of CS Rapid Bucharest), we witnessed the same trifles addressed not only to the most valuable Romanian handball player of all time – Cristina Nyagu – but also to the coach Adrian Vasile, as well as during displaying a huge banner with the inscription “City hall team – shame of Romania” – a moment when FRH no longer saw fit to intervene, although the image that CSM has created for almost 10 years in Europe is one of productivity and quality.
In response to the championship, there were insults against the two again – attention, not only Neagu is constantly warned – the behavior that continued in the match in the Romanian Cup, more sour than ever, mistakes that have no place in the gym. Not to mention that in the match at the Rapid hall, since the return of the last edition of the championship, we have had the same trifles against the player during the match and against the coach, even when he gave statements to the media – there are enough images and evidence.
Vuvuzelas, trumpets, drums, music, artists – all this can be found in any sports arena in the world, and it would be abnormal to say that we are not satisfied that “we did not hear Rapid gallery”. At least the Romanian Handball Federation should not fall into this sin and should focus its efforts on the game of handball and the show on the field, about which there was too little talk, and not offer changing “arguments” and at the same time confirm the behavior of the suburbanites.
With this review, with 5 specific episodes of inappropriate behavior and with the smallest fine given to the club Rapid chronologically applied to episode number 2, we can express our opinion that the situation could have been avoided if FRH had taken the decisive measures that were imposed . Because we are talking about relapse. And for an honest and civilized supporter of CSM Bucharest, it is an even greater insult that the national forum, with the voice of its president, tries to find mitigating circumstances for insults and trifles, when the main concern should be the health and cleanliness of the sports environment. And all this in the conditions when the institutions of the Romanian state themselves reported what happened during the last confrontation in Polivalent and started an investigation, and a number of important sponsors of Romanian handball raised questions about the tolerance of some such behavior.
We are awaiting the decision of the Disciplinary Commission at FRH and we express our hope that from now on in the future such episodes that are not related to handball will not be generated and that the sport will have the upper hand and the mistakes of some fans will fade into the background and be severely punished.” This is stated in the press release of CSM Bucharest.
What the president of FRH said about the scandal with Christina Nyagu – Rapidists fans
Constantin Dean, president of FRH, stated that the club CSM Bucharest was also partly to blame and incited the unsportsmanlike behavior of the fans towards Cristina Nyagu.
“I want to tell you that the Rapidu handball gallery is very well-known and highly rated at the European level. This gallery is talked about everywhere. When they came and encouraged their team in the handball hall, they behaved very well. I believe that even the CSM club has some fault and encourages unsportsmanlike behavior or this behavior that is not appropriate for the sports arena.
I’m talking specifically, the noises of the CSM gallery were amplified through the amplification station. Considering the volume, it is quite loud, if not at the maximum. I couldn’t hear the Rapid gallery from where I was sitting! In the hall, on the other hand, there was no sound. When the CSM club made such a decision, it probably incited those from Rapid and poured out their anger on the players” – Konstantin Dean at ProArena.
