The “psychotic state of war” is not very popular among most countries outside of Europe, Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjártó said on Friday in New York, adding that a large part of the world suffered from the war in Ukraine and wants peace, the Hungarian press reported. the MTI agency quoted by Agerpres.

The positions of European states and other countries are diametrically opposed, Szijjarto said before the meeting of the UN Security Council, according to the message of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Hungary.

“Thus, although European countries believe that the world supports the European approach, it is especially clear that most countries outside Europe do not understand why Europeans want to create a global war out of a regional conflict,” said the head of Hungarian diplomacy. .

“A large part of the world wants peace,” Sijarto insisted. “He wants the war to end as soon as possible. So the psychotic European state of war, this European rhetoric of war is not very popular in other parts of the world.”

The Hungarian minister noted that Hungary, being adjacent to Ukraine, daily feels the negative consequences of the war and, in addition, a significant number of ethnic Hungarians from the Transcarpathian region become victims of this war. Sijarto noted that several of his colleagues first heard about it from him.

“And we don’t want more people to die in the war,” said the Hungarian Foreign Minister. “Neither Hungarians nor any other nationality. It is clear that peace is needed to save lives. But peace cannot be achieved through sanctions or arms deliveries.”

Peace can be achieved only if a truce is concluded and peace negotiations begin, Sijarto explained, stressing that there can be no winners in an armed conflict, only losers, and the longer it drags on, the greater the damage will be.

In the end, Peter Sijarto urged “Americans and Russians to take advantage of the opportunities provided by the UN” – created as a platform for dialogue between conflicting states – “and to sit down at the negotiating table without delay.”

“We don’t want a third world war,” he continued. “This regional war should not turn into a global one. And the most important thing is that there is no direct confrontation between NATO and Russia,” said the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Hungary, expressing hope that NATO countries will continue to respect the Alliance’s initial decision not to participate in the conflict in Ukraine.

He reiterated that a year after the start of the war, the transatlantic world had not yet been able to find answers that would hasten the end of the conflict.

“While we are talking about peace here, others are making decisions about arms deliveries,” Peter Sijarto reminded. “It’s time for everyone to understand that sanctions and arms deliveries will not bring peace. Only a truce and peace negotiations will bring peace,” the head of Hungarian diplomacy emphasized.
