Israeli airstrikes hit the Gaza Strip early Thursday after rockets were fired from the Palestinian enclave, but there were no casualties, a journalist told AFP.
Shortly after 06:00 (local and Greek time), thick smoke rose from the shelling site north of Gaza City.
A few minutes later, in a press release, the Israeli military confirmed that they had carried out “strikes on the Gaza Strip.”
Earlier eyewitnesses stated that they were launched at least eight rockets from the Palestinian enclave. For its part, the Israeli army reported six missile launches, adding that five were intercepted by the Iron Dome missile defense system, and the sixth landed in a deserted area.
The new fighting follows an Israeli army raid on Wednesday in Nablus, West Bank, in which 11 Palestinians, including a 16-year-old teenager, were killed and at least 80 others were shot.
Since the beginning of the year, the Israeli-Palestinian conflict has killed 60 Palestinians (members of armed organizations and civilians, including minors), 10 Israelis (9 civilians, including three minors, and a police officer), as well as a Ukrainian woman. , according to an AFP tally based on announcements from official Israeli and Palestinian sources.
