
Its general secretary UN, Antonio Guterres, re-sentenced today Russian invasion of Ukraineduring a two-day meeting of the General Assembly of the Organization on the occasion of the completion of one year since the beginning of the war.
“The (Russian) invasion is an insult to our collective conscience,” said Mr. Guterrescalling the anniversary a “sad milestone” not only for the people of Ukraine, but for the entire international community.
Referring to Moscow’s nuclear threats, the UN Secretary General said: “We have heard indirect threats to use nuclear weapons. The so-called use of non-strategic (or tactical) nuclear weapons is absolutely unacceptable. It’s time to move away from the edge of the cliff,” he stressed. Guterres.
He reaffirmed his concerns about the escalation of the conflict and added that the longer the fighting continues, the more difficult it will be to reach a peace agreement to end the war.
A sustainable peace must be based on the principles of the UN Charter and international law, stressed the UN Secretary General.
