Russia-China: Putin sees ‘new horizons’ – Our relationship is not directed against third parties, Beijing said

Today in Moscow, the Russian President met with the top Chinese diplomat, the experienced Wang Yi.

“We are waiting for the visit of the President of China to Russia, we have agreed on this. Everything progresses and develops. We are approaching new horizons,” the Russian leader said, welcoming a senior Chinese diplomat to the Kremlin, who, however, was more “restrained” than Putin in his statements today.

“Relations between China and Russia,” Wang Yi said through an interpreter, “are not directed against any third party, but are not subject to pressure from a third party.”

“Together we support multipolarity and democratization in international relations,” Wang Yi told Putin, saying that “this is fully consistent with the course of history and the interests of most countries.”

Earlier today, Wang Yi also met with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov.

It is recalled that the former Chinese Foreign Minister, and now the chief foreign policy adviser to President Xi Jinping, flew to Moscow from Europe, where in recent days he made a mini-tour with stops in France, Italy, Munich and Hungary.

On the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference, a Chinese diplomat even met last Saturday with US Foreign Secretary Anthony Blinken. However, according to US reports, the Sino-US meeting in question “failed.”

On the contrary, today’s meeting between the Chinese official and the Russian leader in Moscow took place in a clearly good atmosphere.

Putin, for his part, chose to emphasize in his message the possibility of a visit by Chinese leader Xi Jinping to Russia in the coming months, thus wishing to present to the West an image of pro-Russian cooperation.

However, Beijing, for its part, has been stubbornly talking about the need for peace in Ukraine and, at least not yet, after twelve months of conflict, has sent weapons to the Russian troops fighting on the Ukrainian front.
