Tsitsipas withdraws from Acapulco tournament due to injury

With a long post he uploaded on Wednesday evening (February 22) on social media, Stefanos Tsitsipas withdrew from next week’s Acapulco 500 due to a shoulder injury.

The 24-year-old Greek experienced discomfort during the Australian Open, but continued to participate in the tournament until the end, and recently also participated in the tournament in Rotterdam, where he was eliminated ahead of schedule by Yannick Scheiner.

However, he chose not to take any more risks and decided not to go to Mexico on the Abierto Mexicano. With the first two Masters of the season following in the US, California and Miami, it’s still unknown if it will be ready on time.

“To my fans and supporters,

It is with great disappointment that I have to announce my withdrawal from Abierto Mexicano this year due to a shoulder problem I suffered at the Australian Open.

Mexico is one of my favorite destinations in the world and I always want to take the opportunity to take part in this great tournament.

I am grateful for the support I have received from my tennis friends and fans in Mexico over the past two years. Your unwavering support is an amazing source of inspiration and motivation for me and I am grateful for all the support and kindness you have shown me.

Although failure is disappointing, I prefer to keep only the positives from it. I use the next period of time to rest, heal and come back stronger than ever.

I will continue to work hard and try to reach my goals and I am sure that there will be many more opportunities for me to compete in Mexico in the future.

I want to wish good luck to all the athletes taking part in the Abierto Mexicano this year. I know they will put on a great show for the fans and I will support them from afar.

Thanks again for your support and understanding. I’m already looking forward to returning to Mexico soon and competing again in front of the best fans in the world.

Sincerely, Stefanos.”
