After more than 5 years of career, like most products of the Korean manufacturer, Hyundai Kona does not suffer from significant reliability issues and benefits from particularly careful engineering. Hyundai also offers a 5-year warranty on the Kona, which shows its confidence in the city SUV’s reliability.

But since nobody’s perfect, the Kona has also had a few flaws throughout its career. This time the Korean manufacturer released a new rap campaignl, which concerns over 35,500 copies Hyundai Kona, potentially equipped with a faulty fuel filter.

Hyundai Kona recall: faulty fuel filter

The information came from Hyundai Portugal, where the Kona is called the Hyundai Kauai, but the recall may also affect other models sold in Europe. Affected models are equipped internal combustion engines (petrol, diesel or hybrid), while electric versions of the Kona are unaffected.

Offenders may have a faulty fuel filter which can cause vehicle damage, and in particular at the level of the high-pressure pump. One of the symptoms is stall the enginewhich can increase the risk of an accident on the road.

“A paper fuel filter can get into the high pressure pump and damage it, which can cause the engine to stall, increasing the risk of an accident”can you read on the website of the European Union dedicated to the recall of consumer goods: “The product does not comply with the Regulation on approval and market surveillance of motor vehicles and their trailers, as well as systems, components and separate technical units intended for such vehicles”.

Hyundai Kona recall: free repair

A reminder that carries number “21D091”affects about 35,500 Hyundai Kona units produced from March 29, 2018 to October 8, 2021.

There were already affected customers notified by mail from Hyundai. However, if you have not received this information and your Kona was manufactured during this period of more than 3 years, do not hesitate to contact your authorized Hyundai dealer or service center to check whether your vehicle is affected by the recall.

In all cases, owners of vehicles affected by this recall are encouraged to contact their authorized Hyundai dealer for free support which consists of replacement of the fuel filter service kit.
