Switzerland has announced plans for a new package of humanitarian aid to Ukraine and Moldova worth $150 million, CNN reports.
The Swiss parliament must now approve a package of about $123 million to Ukraine and $28 million to Moldova.
Since the beginning of the war, Switzerland has allocated about 1.4 billion dollars in aid to Ukraine.
This includes more than $291 million to support Ukraine in cooperation with allies, as well as approximately $1.12 billion to host Ukrainian asylum seekers, the statement said.
According to the government, Switzerland has already taken in more than 75,000 asylum seekers from Ukraine since the Russian invasion, and citizens have taken in about 25,000 Ukrainians in their residences.
The Swiss government on Wednesday reiterated its “strongest condemnation of the attack” and called for “an end to hostilities and the withdrawal of Russian troops from the entire territory of Ukraine.”
“Russia’s military attack on Ukraine on February 24, 2022 marked a paradigm shift in the recent history of the continent,” he added.
Remember: last year, Switzerland broke with its tradition of neutrality in favor of adopting sanctions against Russia that it says are in line with those adopted by the European Union.
Arms shipments are still exempt due to neutrality legislation.
Switzerland also prohibited Germany from handing over to Ukraine Swiss-made ammunition for German Gepard anti-aircraft systems, which Berlin supplied to Ukraine.
