A few days after the presentation of the restyling of the BMW X5 and X6, it was the turn of their more sporty variants. so here it is the new BMW X5 M Competition and X6 M Competition.

The firm’s two screw-drive sport utility vehicles have received an aesthetic and mechanical update with, for the first time, a small electric assist system. Not so much to reduce fuel consumption and emissions, but to still offer more approval of the V8 that always powers these two beasts.

BMW X5 M and X6 M Competition: between luxury and sportiness

Like the more conventional versions, the BMW X5 and X6 Competition are equipped with new front and rear LED lights and a “new” double grille painted in black.

Naturally, both cars received the special treatment with enlarged air intakes, 21-inch front and 22-inch rear alloy wheels, M brake system with red or black calipers and, as an option, carbon fiber elements for the mirror caps and rear spoiler.

In terms of exterior colors, customers will be able to indulge in approximately 50 BMW Individual colors available for both models and an endless list of M Performance accessories.

The same personalization options apply to the interior, where standard equipment includes Merino leather upholstery combined with wood and steel inserts. As standard, the car is equipped with a Harman Kardon audio system, and as an option, you can choose an excellent Bowers & Wilkins Diamond Surround Sound system.

The leather steering wheel features carbon fiber paddles, and on the dashboard we find BMW’s famous twin Curved Display with a 12.3-inch instrument panel and a 14.9-inch infotainment system. The larger screen, in particular, displays basic information about the driving modes (Road, Sport and Race), as well as the various settings of the M xDrive all-wheel drive system, which allow you to control the distribution of power between the two axles.

In Race mode, the car can send maximum torque back to, why not, enjoy sliding down the track. However, rare customers will take such a giant to the track.

BMW X5 M and X6 M Competition: “electrified” V8

As mentioned above, the 4.4-liter V8 in the updated BMW X5 M Competition and X6 M Competition has been revised with the addition of mild hybridization. It is a 48-volt system integrated directly into the eight-speed automatic transmission 12 hp and 200 Nm additionally at certain stages of movement. The total power remains unchanged compared to the previous version 625 hp and 750 Nm of torque. Announced from 0 to 100 km/h 3.9 seconds.

BMW says it has revised the throttle and turbo response times, as well as the gearbox settings, to further improve shift speed. Engineers also revised the adaptive M suspension (which also includes active roll stabilization) and the active M differential.

Undeniably sporty, the X5 and X6 M are no less luxurious and technologically advanced. They are equipped with numerous driving aids, including collision warning with pedestrian and cyclist detection, automatic emergency braking, lane keeping and traffic sign recognition. As an option, the Parking Assistant Professional package is available, which allows the car to park “alone” and perform autonomous maneuvers in reverse thanks to the memory of the last 200 meters traveled.

In France, the BMW X5 M Competition starts from 159,300 euroswhile the BMW X6 M Competition claims 163,300 euros. To this should be added the inevitable environmental fine of 50,000 euros.
