
India’s former world number one in doubles Sania Mirza announced her retirement from professional tennis after her final match at WTA Dubai on Tuesday.

Mirza, 36, first climbed to the top of the WTA doubles rankings in April 2015 and held it for 91 weeks.
Sania Mirza has six major titles to her credit: three in women’s doubles (Wimbledon 2015, US Open 2015, Australian Open 2016) and three in mixed doubles (Australian Open 2009, Roland Garros 2012 and US Open 2014).
In total, the athlete from India has collected 43 WTA doubles titles, the first in 2004 in Hyderabad with Liesel Huber and the last with Zhang Shuai in 2021 in Ostrava.
In women’s doubles, Mirza won three consecutive Grand Slam titles with Martina Hingis.
In mixed doubles, the pair of Sania Mirza and Horia Tekau lost the final of the 2014 Australian Open.
