“I was saddened to learn of the death of the great historian of modern Greece, George V. Dertilis. A worthy scholar, with a distinct imprint in the university, in research and writing. But also an active citizen, Kyriakos Mitsotakis announced in his post the death of G. Dertilis.
“He has contributed to the development of historical science since the early 80s in many ways: he taught at the University of Athens; And later at the Department of Greek Studies at the Higher School of Social Sciences in Paris. Creation of the Historical Archive of the University. An idea he came up with himself. And, of course, by writing a valuable work, the highlight of which is the “History of the Greek State,” the Prime Minister added.
And he continued: “His recent election to the Academy of Athens was the culmination of a brilliant career and a consistent public course. Because Dertilis was an interventionist intellectual. With a clear vision and with a real concern for the progress of the place. “History does not repeat itself and rarely teaches,” he said. “It just shows how society can avoid the mistakes of the past in the future.” We respect his words … To his beloved Erietta, his faithful students and all his people, I express my sincere condolences.
