
Israel on Monday condemned as “one-sided” the declaration of the UN Security Council on settlements in the West Bank and expressed regret on the part of the United States for supporting the text, which it says denies the “historic” right of the Jews, writes AFP.
“The UN Security Council issued a unilateral statement denying the right of Jews to live in their historic homeland, ignoring Palestinian terrorist attacks in Jerusalem that killed 10 Israeli citizens,” Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office said in a statement. to which the United States “should never have acceded” to the declaration.
US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken said on Monday that he was “deeply concerned” by Israel’s decision to legalize new settlements in the occupied West Bank and plans to build new housing in existing settlements, AFP reported.
“We are deeply concerned by Israel’s decision yesterday to accelerate the construction of up to 10,000 homes and retroactively begin the process of legalizing nine settlements in the West Bank previously considered illegal under Israeli law,” he said in a statement.
