Britain’s Andy Murray won the first round in Doha after two hours and 33 minutes of play with a score of 4-6, 6-1, 7-6 against Italian Lorenzo Sonego (71 ATP).
Having received a wild card, Murray will meet in the 1/8 finals in Qatar with the fourth favorite of the tournament, German Oleksandr Zverev.
The 35-year-old player is ranked 70th in the ATP ranking and has won three Grand Slam tournaments (US Open 2012 and Wimbledon 2013, 2016).
The Qatar ExxonMobil Open (Doha) will be held from February 20 to 26 on hard, is part of the ATP 250 category and has a total prize fund of $1,377,025. The titular champion is Roberto Bautista Agut (2022).
