Her story Russian rocker and leader of the group DDT Yuri Shevchuk released a new song and video clip “Rodina, go home.” In this new song, Shevchuk calls on his country to stop the war and take care of its own problems. The clip was filmed by Shevchuk together with producer and composer Dmitry Emelyanov.
The lyrics of the song “Rodina, come back home” were written by Yuri Shevchuk in the summer of 2022, a few months after the start of the Russian military invasion of Ukraine. However, approaching the anniversary of this invasion, he set the words to music and created his new anti-war song, through which Shevchuk tells the Russians: “Don’t go crazy, this is not your war.”
Yuri Shevchuk has repeatedly spoken out against the war in Ukraine. He is a consistent fighter for peace and opposed any wars, including in Chechnya, South Ossetia and throughout the world.
In 2022, Shevchuk was fined 50,000 rubles (about 800 euros) by a court for slandering the Russian army. The reason for imposing a fine was the anti-war statements made by him during a concert in the city of Ufa.
On May 18, addressing his audience in Ufa, the 65-year-old singer repeated that “Motherland is not for kissing the president’s ass all the time,” judging by the videos posted online.
Concerts of the DDT group in Russia after the outbreak of the war were often postponed or canceled “for technical reasons.”
In the summer of 2022, the media wrote about the existence of a list of “artists banned in Russia” who opposed the war in Ukraine. Among them are DDT, BI-2, Aquarium, Pornofilmy, rappers Face and Oxximiron, singers Zemfira, Monetotskaya and Vasya Oblomof. In total, the list included more than 50 people. Many artists have canceled his concerts, and some have been declared “foreign agents” by the Russian Ministry of Justice.
