More than 30 countries, including USAher Britannia And her Francepromised on Monday to support the blockade Russian And Belorussian athletes from international kinds of sports events, according to a British government statement.
The announcement follows recent proposals by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) that it is studying a map that would allow Russian and Belarusian athletes to return to competition, including the 2024 Olympics, the government added.
“We are very concerned about the possibility of Russian and Belarusian Olympic athletes participating as “neutrals” with the funding and support of their states,” explains a letter received by AFP from this coalition of about thirty countries.
“We firmly believe that, given that the situation with Russian aggression in Ukraine has not changed … there is no reason to lift the ban on Russian athletes and Belarus adopted by the IOC,” the letter explains.
“Until these fundamental issues are resolved, as well as the complete lack of clarity and specific details regarding the definition of ‘neutrality’, we do not accept that Russian and Belarusian athletes are allowed to return to competition,” they argue, concluding: “We urge the IOC to resolve these issues that all countries are targeting and revise their proposal accordingly.”
