
Last year, BMW M celebrated its 50th anniversary. It has been a busy year for the manufacturer’s sports division, notably with the introduction of the BMW XM, the new BMW M2, the M4 CSL and finally the famous BMW 3.0 CSL.
CSL for “Coupé, Sport, Leichtbau”, this was the surprise of the head of BMW M in 2022. It from a limited series of 50 copies which is roughly based on the M4 CSL with a few aesthetic and technical modifications.
Secrets of BMW 3.0 CSL production
BMW has just released some photos that confirm the car’s production at the factory in Dingolfing, Germany. It is here that the brand produces some of its most exclusive cars, including the M4 Coupé and Cabriolet, the M5 or even the M8 Coupé, Cabriolet and Gran Coupé.
Last year, the plant collected approx 50,000 BMW Ms. The 3.0 CSL is produced at the special site where the M4 GT4 was assembled. This place is equipped with special machines, in particular to modify certain body parts specific to the 3.0 CSL.
Meanwhile, other exterior components such as front side panels and bumpers are completed at the nearby Landshut plant. The 3.0 CSL production process takes about two weeks from A to Z.

BMW 3.0 CSL in several figures
As a reminder, the BMW 3.0 CSL is equipped with a twin-turbo six-cylinder engine directly derived from the engine used in the DTM. It has a working volume of 3.0 liters and develops 560 hp, or by 10 hp. more than the M4 CSL. The maximum torque is 550 Nm at the maximum engine speed of 7200 rpm. Many technical elements of the M4 GT3 have been integrated into the 3.0 CSL, such as turbocharging, a special cooling system and a titanium exhaust.
Power is sent to the rear wheels only via a six-speed manual gearbox. The gear shifter is created exclusively for the BMW 3.0 CSL and also echoes the past. The car also benefits from an automatic heel/toe system which can also be deactivated.
BMW will produce only 50 cars with individual numbers for about three months. Pricing has not been disclosed, but recent rumors indicate a price close to that 720,000 euros. BMW has already announced that two copies are reserved for France, all have already been sold.
