Turkish and Russian leaders may soon discuss a UN-backed initiative to allow grain exports from Ukrainian ports, but a date has yet to be set, a source familiar with the deal talks told Russian RIA Novosti on Monday.
Ukraine said that broader talks are expected this week to expand the Black Sea Grain Initiative, which allowed grain to be exported from three Ukrainian ports.
The deal is set to be renewed in March, but Russia has made it clear it is unhappy with some aspects of the deal and has called for the lifting of sanctions affecting its agricultural exports.
“The issue of the grain agreement, proposals on it is always on the agenda of the leaders. Therefore, it should not be ruled out that the leaders will touch upon this topic in negotiations in the near future,” the source told the state-run RIA.
Asked when those talks could take place, the source said he “didn’t have a firm date”.
