The former Minister of Foreign Affairs of Belarus, Volodymyr Makei, who died last November at the age of 64, allegedly committed suicide, writes the Belarusian opposition publication “Nasha Niva” with reference to 4 independent sources in medicine and state administration, “Ukrainian Pravda” reports.
The newspaper notes that despite the fact that the November 26 report of the BelTA National State Agency did not specify the cause of Makey’s death, four sources in the state administration and medical experts referred to by “Nasha Niva” stated that he committed suicide.
A popular version of the first days after death would be a heart attack.
However, the post says that a combination of factors could have led to the suicide.
According to the cited source, the last years of the minister’s life were accompanied by “both political and personal dramas.”
Mackay’s friends are said to have felt unwanted, and Mackay knew that Alexander Lukashenko’s administration had begun looking for candidates to replace him.
“It didn’t mean that it would be removed tomorrow. But he knew it [șederea lui în] his former high post was ending. And in height [atinse], never seen anywhere else.” – said one of the interlocutors.
There were problems in the family as well. Some of them were public and some were not public.
According to the press service, on the day of his death, Makei went home alone, while his wife Vera Polyakova and younger son stayed in another apartment.
According to the publication, the first to find him was his wife’s eldest son, who went home after the family could not contact him by phone.
Sources of “Nasha Niva” say that there are no signs that it was a murder under the guise of suicide.
Before the presidential elections and mass anti-government protests in Belarus in 2020, Makey was one of the initiators of efforts to improve Belarus’ relations with the West and criticized Russia.
However, after the protests began, he sharply changed his position, saying that they were inspired by Western agents.
