They may have survived the earthquake just six years ago, in 2017, and become homeless and victims of the earthquake, they could have been victims of a fire last summer, but the people of Vrysa, Lesvos, insist that they are, first of all, people.
While they are still trying to rebuild their village, they have donated some of their debts to other people in Turkey and Syria who survived the devastating earthquake. Last Friday they delivered 83 parcels with humanitarian aid to the victims of the earthquake to the regional office of the Red Cross.
In a statement, Theodoros Valsamidis, the president of the regional branch of the Red Cross, who published this event, says:
“In a highly symbolic gesture of solidarity and love, the Vrisa community delivered 83 ‘Love Parcels’ to us yesterday for our brothers in Turkey and Syria affected by the devastating earthquake. A neighborhood that survived the nightmare of an earthquake six years ago and a devastating fire last summer is still struggling to get back on its feet. They deserve warm congratulations for this great initiative.”
