A two-minute inspection by the Iasi County Health Insurance Company in June 2022 at the Sfantul Spyridon Emergency Medical District Hospital in Iasi was the spark that led to the case in which the doctor, Dan Tesloiana, is accused of using devices for the heart attacks of the dead during the intervention of his patients, reports Ziarul de Iași.

Last summer, the CJAS of Iași announced that it had discovered violations in the periodic monitoring of national health care treatment programs. At that time, the St. Spyridon Emergency District Hospital in Iasi, where the doctor Dan Tesloianu works, requested an internal audit at the level of the medical department.

On July 8, the hospital’s management informed the authorities, in particular the Ministry of Health, that the use of procedure codes that do not correspond to reality was detected at the level of the cardiac dispensary.

“There is a suspicion that the use of codes influenced the calculation of CJAS medical services in Iași in the sense of overestimating them,” the documents sent to the Ministry of Health state.

According to Ziarul de Iași, the hospital authorities have since discovered the fact that the cardiology clinic had implanted reusable devices that were “recovered from deceased patients”. These would later be entered into the medical unit’s purchase specifications to track their entry into the system.

“The use / implantation of reused medical devices, respectively, medical devices not originating from the management / acquisition carried out through the National Cardiovascular Program funded by CJAS Iași (devices obtained from deceased patients or from donations) were challenged. As well as the introduction of “diagnostic and introducer sets” batch orders in the specification for procurement through the “National Health Program – Subprogram of automatic implantable stimulators and defibrillators”; the requested products are used within a program of which the hospital is not a part, namely the Cardiac Resynchronization Program,” the documents read by Ziarul de Iași say.

Implantation of such equipment is carried out free of charge for all people suffering from cardiac problems through national programs conducted by the Ministry of Health, with payment through the District Health Insurance Fund.

What the doctor’s lawyer says

According to prosecutors, the doctor from Iaşa created a network of medical personnel who supplied him with heart devices from cadavers, which he implanted in patients for five years, ignoring the risks, reusing them while receiving money from the beneficiaries and the devices. were calculated by a doctor through the Health Center.

Investigators say some patients were given drugs to make them feel sick and needed a heart device implanted.

On Saturday, a Bucharest court ordered the preventive arrest for 30 days of cardiologist Dan Tesloianu from St. Spyridon Hospital in Iasi, who was accused by the General Prosecutor’s Office of reusing pacemakers recovered from corpses.

The lawyer of the famous cardiologist said that he has filed an appeal, and his client does not want to make a statement.

“We had two hours to formulate a defense. He wishes not to make any statements at this time. No one says they saved a life. The doctor has a 21-year career behind him and has performed 4,000 interventions,” said Marius Todeanka, a cardiologist lawyer, according to Evenimentul Zilei.
